Are Surveys still relevant? The answer will depend on who you ASK, and when you ASK but there is no doubt that Digital analytics is FASTER, Cheaper, and better reflects on the ground sentiments. We compared data from Facebook Feed (data from ADD Sentiment Analysis) and Google Trends and matched it with Survey data and Campaign activity.
Google Trends actually shows VP Leni Taking the lead in interest on Search at least 2 weeks before it becomes obvious on Facebook. There can be a lot of factors around that but it is easier to control facebook than google trends from a Troll’s point of view.
If we compare the survey of Octa or Pulse Asia, they seem to be on point with the Facebook Sentiments, but then, will they tell the same story this March? Let’s wait and see.

According to our search listener tool. People look for leni robredo platform, leni robredo achievements, leni robredo rally, leni robredo daughters, leni robredo age,leni robredo senatorial slate, leni robredo news, leni robredo campaign schedule this is as of April 20. Looks legit? Seems like people are trying to find out who she really is.

The choice of respondents also has to be cleaned and they need to open up to transparency so they will not be questioned. Is it still relevant? Any data set is relevant to understanding the market as a whole, that is why defining the audience of the survey is very important.

So the Question is Can Google Trends predict elections?
For now, it can predict interest and volume VS location but once data points can be identified for predictive analytics then it is possible to a fearless forecast. What works for Google trends is that it has shown a high rating in terms of showing the outcome of elections in the United States, Canada, and France.
In the United States, results show that this method has predicted the real winner in all the elections held since 2004. Let’s see how things unfold for us and how google trends will predict the outcome of the current and future Philippine Elections.
