Admit it; internet connection is one of the basic necessities in this new generation. If you plan to move to a new city, work relocation, or have bought a new property (congratulations!) The next thing you’ll never want to deal with is no internet connectivity in your area.
Moving from one area to another is time-consuming, stressful, and may cost you extra bucks and tons of effort. While packing and repacking stuff is already a plain headache, ensuring all bills and subscription packages must be handled appropriately—especially your internet connection.
Now, this is one of the common dilemmas faced by most Filipinos moving in and out. The transfer process of your internet plan doesn’t happen overnight. However, there are a few steps you may want to consider doing now if you have plans of moving next week or next month.
The Basics and what to expect
PLDT MyDSL, Home Fiber plans has a 24 months contract (or varies based on your individual plan). So if you are a happy customer and want to resume your subscription to your new location, you can do so.
Though you need to expect a few challenges when doing so, some may think of just letting their initial line be cut off automatically and apply for a new one. This is a no-no.
If you have a few minutes to speak with a representative, you will learn that there are several options on how you can do this.
Simultaneous Transfer
Usually, offices choose the simultaneous transfer to maintain their connectivity before moving to their new location. Thus, subscribers will access the internet while the provider is installing the new line in your desired location. Put another way, and the old connection will be cut off only if the new connection is ready.
Non-Simultaneous Transfer
Moving into your new home or apartment will only make this option feasible. It’s not a choice offices and businesses will make. Consequently, during the process of transferring, the line will be disconnected.
As soon as the new line is activated at your new location, connectivity will resume. The period that your line is cut will not be billed to you under this option.
Temporary/Voluntary Account Hold
This one is something you may want to consider if you are relocating to a new area where there is already an existing PLDT line and planning to put your account on hold until such notice. It can be effective for six months.
However, you may need to request this after you settle your bills from the previous billing cycle. It was a good option if you want to restore your subscription after six months.
For instance, this was ideal as I am moving to my in-law’s house in the meantime while waiting for our house to be built entirely in a six months time frame. Instead of transferring my previous subscription, you can temporarily ask the service provider (PLDT) to stop my account and resume after six months.
- Billing will stop
- Cut line
- Resume after six months
- Six months additional on your previous 24-month contract
If you want to know more about the best option for your case, you can speak to a live agent to further explain your distinctive needs through their toll-free hotline 171 to walk you through the process.
The transfer fee will cost you roughly Php 1,100 besides your monthly bill.
Thoughts
Whether you are planning to move to a new place, got relocated from work, or settling to a new place to start over again, it’s essential that you check your option, allow PLDT technicians to survey the area if there is an available plan, service, or subscription option to your target location. That way, you’ll never have to worry about staying online or being cut off from all your social media profiles, work, or business.
