The Adamson University Lady Falcons captured their very first win in style as they took down the reigning champions Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles in four sets, 23-25, 25-19, 25-15, 25-12, in the UAAP Season 84 Women’s Volleyball Tournament, Tuesday night at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
Adamson did not hesitate to go for the Blue Eagles’ throat in the fourth set, as they established a massive 14-point lead, 19-5, to take the fight out of the Blue Eagles. The lead eventually reached 15, 22-7, off a kill from May Ann Nuique.
Alexis Miner committed an attack error which sent the game to match point. Meanwhile, a service error from Pia Ildefonso bagged the win for Adamson.
“Pagod na kami pero worth it naman lahat ng pagod,” said Lady Falcons head coach Lerma Giron. “Siyempre sobrang saya, pakiramdam namin sabi ko nga kanina, nung isang araw pa we need to win this game kasi sobra na yung nasakripisyo ng mga players, lahat sa Adamson even coaching staff so we really want this game talaga.”
Trisha Genesis played her best game of the tournament so far, producing 17 points to go along with 12 excellent receptions to lead the Lady Falcons to a 1-2 standing while Nique added 15 points and 13 excellent digs.
Lucille Almonte contributed 12 points and 12 excellent digs while Lorene Toring added 11 points. Louie Romero dished out 15 excellent sets to go along with two points and 13 excellent digs in the win.
Adamson improved to 1-2 while Ateneo remained winless at 0-3.
Faith Nisperos was the lone bright spot for the Blue Eagles with 16 points and 12 excellent receptions while Vanie Gandler had 11 points and eight digs. Jaja Maraguinot collected 14 excellent digs as Roma Doromal had eight digs.
