12 adulting tips from Hazel Quing’s Living Alone Series

Hazel is a 24-year-old Filipina YouTuber that rose to fame through her “Can’t Say No” challenge with her mother, who also took the vlogging world following her daughter’s success. She is also famous for her Japan and Korea travel vlogs. As an only child, Hazel was sheltered, cared and was raised to be a responsible, academically driven, and wise lady. She spent her childhood discovering and molding her talents until she discovered her passion through vlogging. In a vlog five months ago, she celebrated her 24th birthday and her 4th year in the YouTube industry but what shocked her subscribers was her announcement that she would be moving out from her parents’ house. Despite living a comfortable life in her parents’ home, she wanted to figure out life independently, discover and experience things she never got to experience. Let me take you to the 12 adulting tips we can learn from her Living Alone Series.

Never hesitate to welcome change for your growth.

She taught us never to be afraid of the changes but welcome them, to be open to opportunities that will contribute to our growth. She encourages her viewers to do what they want and be brave enough to go out of their comfort zone. Growth is not static, it requires constant development, and maybe one thing that can make you achieve this is to know and discover your strengths, weaknesses, and authentic self.

Form a habit that you will be proud of.

She shares a quote from a  book that says, “your habits are who you are being, rather than what you are doing” in her vlog. Doing the same things over again may lead to burnout and prevent growth. Now that she takes a different path in life, she wants to form a habit that her future self and her people will be proud of. If you have bad habits that you want to get rid of, it’s time to develop new ones that will contribute to your growth.

Develop sincere friendships.

You’ll need a solid support system if you’re going to make a significant change in your life. YouTuber friends Ry Velasco, Rei Germar, and Jammy Cruz visited Hazel at her new house, despite their hectic schedules. This relieved her worry and overwhelmedness and made her calm and relaxed. This is a sign for you to cherish and be a part of true friendships.

Treat your parents.

You may be told by your parents that they don’t need anything from you and that watching you develop and achieve your goals is enough to make them happy and grateful but, treating them will surely make them feel valued and loved. When you are able and have the resources to do so, it is only proper to express your gratitude for all of their efforts, even in your little ways.

Spend within your means.

When you leave your parent’s house, you become solely accountable for your financial well-being. Your appliances and supplies will be needed when you move, so you must limit what you spend with what you earn. The truth is that purchasing everything all at once isn’t necessary, and you should buy just when you have enough cash on hand. It’s also helpful to keep reminding yourself to put your own needs first.

Find out some cleaning tips from your mom.

I’m sure you’ll all agree that your mom is the ideal person to consult about cleaning ideas, even if you find them on the internet. Despite the fact that moving out implies being independent, it won’t harm to ask your mother for some housekeeping advice to keep your place tidy. In her vlog, Mommy Haidee was given a special appearance and gave her daughter, who was cleaning her house for the first time, cleaning materials and pointers from her personal experiences.

Organize your space.

One tip to keep your place looking tidy is organizing your things with some tools available in the market. When you have a lot of groceries heaped up in the kitchen, it may be a real mess, which is both distracting and time-consuming if you’re a busy person, so it will be better to keep them in one place.

Keep track of your expenses.

Making financial decisions on your own is one of the most frightening aspects of living alone in a new place. You’ll need to keep track of your monthly expenses for water, electricity, and other needs in order to assess, compare, and better control your consumption.

Keep a handy grocery list.

There is no doubt that you are eagerly anticipating your first trip to the grocery store. Before leaving home, make a list of everything you need from toiletries to food to laundry supplies and so on. In doing this, you will spend less money on items you don’t need while focusing on the things you do need. Due to your predetermined purchases, you’ll save both time and effort.

It is never too late to pursue a dream or goal.

Hazel took a pause in her studies to focus on vlogging, and now that the classes are held online, she announced that she would be going back to college. It is never too late to chase something you want to achieve. Remember that you are solely accountable for your actions, so don’t let other people’s opinions deter you from pursuing your goals.

Always have time for rest.

Adulting entails a lot of work, chores, and responsibilities, all of which can wear you down. You deserve a break after putting in so much effort. Despite the fact that you may feel guilty for not getting anything done, your body and mind require adequate rest. You can sleep in, watch movies or television shows you like, or even spend time with friends. Taking a day off will help you feel re-energized and ready to take on the challenges of adulting in the days ahead.

Invest in things that make you happy.

While many people may not understand your purchases, if they bring you joy and are within your financial capabilities, go ahead and add them to your cart. Consider it a way of saying “thank you” for all of the hard work you’ve put in. You will be reminded of the importance of having enjoyment despite the obligations of being an adult. For Hazel, purchasing BTS merchandise provided her joy, and she even invited her mother to accompany her to a virtual concert.
