Isidore the farmer is an important person who works hard every day in order to provide food for people. He is the Patron Saint of Farmers and of Madrid. He is also the Patron Saint of Jalisco, El Gobernador and of La Ceiba. On his feast day, he is honored by being called the “Laborer”.
Isidore was born in the year 1070 in Madrid. He was named after the saint who founded the city of Seville. He became a hired hand in the services of Juan de Vargas, a rich landowner in the city’s vicinity, and worked as a gardener. He shared what he earned with the poor. He married Maria Torribia and had one son. A boy fell into a well and, at the prayer of his parents, the waters rose miraculously to the level where the boy was standing. After this miracle, Isidore and Maria vowed to be sexually abstinent until the day of their death. Their son later died young. Isidore died on May 15th, 1130.
The feast day of San Isadore Labrador is celebrated on May 15th. He is the Patron Saint of Farmers, Peasants, Agricultural Workers, and Madrid, Spain. On this day, we pray for peace, prosperity, and abundance. We ask our Lord Jesus Christ, Our Blessed Mother Mary, and all the Saints to bless us.
