What is the SONA or State of the Nation Address?
The State of the Nation Address is the longest speech regularly given by the President of the Philippines. It is delivered to a joint session of Congress, and is one of the few annual addresses given by the President. The address constitutes the President’s annual report to the Congress on the state of the union, as well as his annual report on the nation’s foreign policy, economy and national progress. The address is broadcast live on television and radio across the country.
The State of the Nation Address is the first of our annual presidential addresses. This is when the president and other top officials present their policy plans to Congress and the nation.
