How has your desk changed over the years? With the unending slew of apps and productivity software, the need for even more tangible work supplies such as cork boards, notebooks, fax machines, etc. has slowly diminished.
In this fascinating video produced by Best Reviews, created by a team at the Harvard Innovation Labs, vintage items such as the Macintosh Classic, fax machine, cork board, Rolodex, Polaroid camera, and more were purchased from garage sales and individuals eBay sellers. In a post on designboom, the team explains, “‘We wondered what it would be like to recreate the desktop from the 1980’s and then emulate its transformation through the computer age.” While some studies have shown that the advances in technology have made people’s lives more complex, the team’s video shows exactly how these same advances have uncluttered and simplified our work desks.
We wanted to illustrate how technology has changed our world, un-cluttering our desks and simplifying our lives. while gradual change from year to year is often hard to perceive, a longer snapshot gives us a much more dramatic view of the technological progression we have experienced.”
