What Is The Purpose Of Visita Iglesia?
Visita Iglesia is a popular Christian practice during Holy Week. It involves visiting seven churches on the night of Maundy Thursday (the last day of Holy Week).
Visitation Iglesia is a Catholic tradition where Catholics visit the altar of repose during Holy Week to pray and give thanks to God for the life-giving sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
There are different reasons why people participate in Visita Iglesia. Some go to pray for the dead while others go to see the Blessed Sacrament. Others go to give thanks for the gifts they’ve received throughout the year.
Whatever the reason, Visita Iglesia is an opportunity to reflect on the past year and prepare for the coming year.
For some, it has changed into a pilgrimage and Filipino tradition to the travel and sacrifice to bring them closer to God and seek penance for their sins.
Devotees either visit 14 Catholic Churches for each of the 14 Stations of the Cross or pray at two stations in each of the 7 churches.
