TNT defeats Magnolia to capture PBA Philippine Cup title

The TNT Tropang Giga finally ended their six-year title drought as they defeated the Magnolia Hotshots, 94-79, in Game Five to win the best-of-seven finals series, 4-1, of the 2021 PBA Philippine Cup on Friday at the DHVSU Gym in Bacolor, Pampanga.

Super rookie Mikey Williams ended his incredible finals performance with a bang, tallying 24 points, four rebounds and four assists. He scored 10 of his points in the second period to help TNT seize control of the match and eventually cruise to the victory and the championship. He was eventually adjudged as the Finals Most Valuable Player.

Cebuano wingman RR Pogoy added 19 markers while Jayson Castro finished with 10 as TNT dominated their opponents all game long and led by as much as 25 points.

Magnolia pulled to within 13 in the fourth but Williams shut the door on the Hotshots’ comeback hopes with a stepback three-pointer that came after a dazzling display of dribble moves that left his defender in the dust.

Ian Sangalang led Magnolia with 18 points and nine rebounds while Calvin Abueva added 14 markers. However, star wingman Paul Lee, who is dealing with a shoulder injury, just could not get anything going and finished with just seven points.
