TNT begins grueling stretch as Governors’ Cup restarts on Friday

The TNT Tropang Giga resumes their bid for a sweep of the titles this season as they take on the Magnolia Hotshots in the 2021 PBA Governors’ Cup on Friday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

TNT and Magnolia battle at 6 p.m. in the main game of a doubleheader that serves as the restart of the tournament that was halted back in December 2021 due to the sudden rise of Covid-19 cases in the country.

Meralco battles NLEX in the curtain-raiser at 3 p.m. This match will also see the Meralco debut of newly-acquired guard Chris Banchero, the free-agent guard who signed with the Bolts during the break.

TNT, though, has a rough road in front of them, having to play four games in a week’s time before the core of its team joins the Gilas Pilipinas’ preparations for the 2023 FIBA World Cup Qualifiers, which commences on February 24. Next up for TNT is Phoenix Super LPG on Sunday, and then, the San Miguel Beermen on February 16. They then finish off this stretch with a game against Barangay Ginebra on February 18.

On Saturday, Blackwater takes on Terrafirma at 4 p.m. while Rain or Shine clashes against Northport at 6:45 p.m.

The PBA will be playing games without fans first although the league already has plans to reintegrate them into live games if and when the Covid-19 situation improves further.
