The aftermath of Typhoon Odette (Rai -International name) is still being felt in Siargao. The devastation caused by the typhoon has left many people homeless, without access to clean water, and struggling for basic necessities. Where is Siargao Exactly and What Is It Popular About?

While the Philippines is located where typhoons are common, the northern parts of Mindanao seem to be hit more frequently. Siargao is one of these regions that has been under a state of emergency due to Typhoon Odette and its aftermath. Located in Surigao del Norte province, Siargao Island is a world-class surfing spot where people from all over the world come to ride the waves.

What is the Current Situation in Siargao?

The current situation in Siargao is dire, with many people still homeless and struggling for necessities like food, water, and shelter. The typhoon caused widespread damage across the island, leaving most residents without access to various necessities.

According to Rep. Bingo (Francisco Jose Matugas) Surigao del Norte First District, even its airport is in complete chaos and massive damage. The damage will reach billions since there are still areas where communication lines are still down to limited.

While the airport runways are now clear from typhoon debris, this is a good sign that relief goods and donations can reach the communities asap. 

Reports said that there were two fatalities onslaught the typhoon. The number of injured casualties is still unknown as the local government needs time to collect more data from various areas affected by Odette. 

NDR (National Disaster Risk Reduction) and MC (Management Council) are on their way to assess the damage and restore communication lines asap. 

Rep Matugas also stated that they expect medical teams, supplies, and kits from Legazpi City to augment search and rescue activities in Siargao. 

News, images, and videos of how devastating the current situation in Siargao is are currently making the rounds online. Many netizens have expressed their concern and prayers for our kababayans who remain in Siargao to ensure that they get access to food, clean water, shelter, among others.

As of writing, typhoon Odette has left the country, but the damage it causes is still being felt. Our kababayans in Siargao need our help, and we should continue to pray for their safety and quick recovery from this disaster.
