Northport big man Greg Slaughter now a free agent

Cebuano giant Greg Slaughter is now a free agent after his contract with the NorthPort Batang Pier expired on January 31.

The University of the Visayas product has yet to agree on a contract extension with the Batang Pier and is keen on exploring his options overseas. It can be remembered that the 33-year old signed a one-year extension with Barangay Ginebra in February of last year before he was traded to Northport in exchange for Christian Standhardinger.

In 12 games for the Batang Pier, Slaughter has proven to be a key piece that is vital to bringing the squad to the upper echelon of the league. The 7-footer averaged 17.6 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks per game in the Philippine Cup and followed that up with averages of 14.3 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks in the import-laden tournament.

Meanwhile, Northport has a real dilemma on their hands as they have also yet to agree on a contract extension with their top gun, Robert Bolick, whose contract also expired on January 31. The Ormoc native, though, is reportedly fielding offers from numerous teams in the B.League.

Ever since his return from an ACL injury, Bolick has been on a tear, averaging 20.5 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 9.2 assists.

With the PBA Governors’ Cup set to restart on February 11, it’s possible that the Batang Pier could be without their two top players.
