The Meralco Bolts were crowned champions of the second leg of the PBA 3×3 Third Conference as they nipped the Cavitex Braves in overtime, 18-17, on Sunday at the Robinsons Las Pinas.
Dexter Maiquez sank the game-winning shot as he hit a deuce that completed the Bolts’ turnaround from a five-point deficit in regulation. It was a valiant effort from Meralco which played with just three players after Maclean Sabellina injured his knee during the semifinals and was hobbled during the championship match.
That left former big man Alfred Batino, wingman Joseph Sedurifa, and Maiquez to carry the fight and eventually bring home the P100,000 grand prize.
Things looked bleak for Meralco as Cavitex scored five straight points to take a 16-11 lead with just 1:19 remaining in regulation. However, the Bolts recharged and refocused with Batino scoring inside and Sedurifa making consecutive long bombs to tie the game at 16-all and send the match to overtime.
Cavitex scored first in overtime but it was not meant to be as Maiquez swished in the deuce to give Meralco the stirring win.
Batino and Sedurifa had seven apiece to lead the way for Meralco.
Prince Rivero scored a team-high seven for Cavitex, which got its first runner-up finish and bagged P50,000.
