Meralco extends Blackwater’s losing streak to 22 games

The Meralco Bolts had a victorious start to their campaign in the 2021 PBA Governors’ Cup as they walloped the Blackwater Bossing, 98-77, on Thursday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The Bolts took full control of the game in the second quarter and did not let relent, en route to handing the Bossing their 22nd straight loss—a PBA record for consecutive losses.

Import Tony Bishop had an impressive debut as he had 28 points to go with 13 rebounds, three blocks, two assists and two steals. He scored 16 of his points in the pivotal second canto where Meralco made their move with 21-7 run that turned what was an 18-all deadlock into a 39-25 lead for the Bolts.

Blackwater tried to mount a comeback in the third but Meralco repulsed them behind the efforts of Bishop and Nards Pinto who sparked a run that gave the Bolts a commanding 75-51 lead heading to the game’s last 12 minutes of action.
