Meralco clobbers Terrafirma for sixth win in Governors’ Cup

The Meralco Bolts blew away the Terrafirma Dyip to gain a foothold on one of the four twice-to-beat bonuses in the quarterfinals of the PBA Governors’ Cup on Thursday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.

The Bolts did the most damage in the second canto, outscoring the Dyip, 30-19, to build a 60-45 lead at halftime. Meralco eventually led by as much as 23 before cruising to their sixth win in seven matches.

Import Tony Bishop had 26 points and 11 rebounds while Allein Maliksi fired in 18 markers, dished out six assists, and grabbed four boards. Cliff Hodge put up 16 while Bong Quinto contributed 11 to help Meralco bounce back after suffering a defeat at the hands of Northport, their only loss so far in this tournament..

“Certainly, the loss to Northport was on our minds entering this game. We didn’t want to stumble again knowing that the elimination round is coming to an end and everybody is fighting for positions. We want to stay in the top four,” said head coach Norman Black.

“We didn’t want to fall today to the Terrafirma. We just want to come out and run as much as possible, play good defense, and get a win, and move on,” added Black.

Antonio Hester paced Terrafirma with 23 points and 17 rebounds but it was not enough to keep the team from falling to 2-6.
