Magnolia escapes TNT, trims series deficit to 2-1 in PBA Philippine Cup

The Magnolia Hotshots are back in the thick of things after they dropped the TNT Tropang Giga, 106-98, in Game Three of the PBA Philippine Cup finals on Sunday at the Don Honorio Ventura State University gym in Bacolor, Pampanga.

Paul Lee found his shooting stroke and scored 21 points to lead the way for the Hotshots while Ian Sangalang added 20 points, seven rebounds and five assists to help them cut the series deficit to 2-1.

It was a fantastic effort by Magnolia, which had to weather the spectacular scoring explosion of TNT’s super rookie, Mikey Williams, who tallied a whopping 39 points highlighted by 10 makes from beyond the arc—establishing a rookie record in the process.

Magnolia led by as much as 18 points but saw their lead get trimmed down to just three, 98-95, after a triple by Williams with 1:12 to go in the match. However, Mark Barroca scored with a layup on the other end to give the Hotshots a five-point cushion with 50 ticks remaining.

Barroca finished with 16 points while Calvin Abueva had 14 points and eight rebounds. Jio Jalalon also scored in double-figures with 11.
