Jumbo Plastic-Basilan crushes KCS-Mandaue to take Game 1 of VisMin Super Cup Southern Finals

The Jumbo Plastic-Basilan Peace Riders pounced on a sluggish KCS Computer Specialist-Mandaue to pull off a dominant 94-67 win in Game One of the 2021 Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup best-of-five Southern Finals on Wednesday at the Pagadian City Gymnasium.

KCS scored the game’s first basket but that proved to be their only lead of the match as Basilan poured it on and led by as much as 36 points in the lopsided victory. The Peace Riders led by 13, 44-31, at halftime as head coach Jerson Cabiltes grew frustrated with his team’s lack of cohesion.

“Noong first half, we couldn’t pull away kasi on some plays disorganized kami sa executions. Sinabihan ko lang sila na just follow the pattern sa executions at mas tigasan pa ang depensa,” said Cabiltes.

The Peace Riders quickly righted the ship and unloaded a 16-3 run at the start of the third to erect a huge 26-point lead, 60-34, with 6:15 left in that stretch. Jong Baloria’s freebie put the Mindanao kings on top by 36, their biggest of the game, 86-50 with 5:43 to go in the match.

Mindanao Leg Finals MVP Chris Bitoon continued his fine play, scoring 19 points to go with three assists, and two steals.

Baloria added 13 points, seven rebounds, and three assists, while Michael Mabulac fired in 11 points and six rebounds.

Michael Juico, Philip Manalang, and Bobby Balucanag each had 10 points.

Steve Castro was the lone bright spot for KCS with 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field, to go with five rebounds and two assists. New addition Miguel Gastador added 11 points.
