How to Boost Your Immune System

by Misha Fabian

With all sorts of diseases invading our airspace, we all want to make sure that we are well protected. Thankfully, we have found ways that we can all boost our immune system and combat the pathogens that are floating around us. Here’s a list of the things you can do to make sure your body is at its best:

Fruits N Veggies

Eat lots (and we mean LOTS) of fruits and vegetables

Ever since we were little, we’ve been told to eat our fruits and veggies. Why? Fruits and vegetables are filled with all sorts of natural vitamins and minerals that would definitely help us amp up our body’s defenses. Some of the foods that will help boost your immune system are: citrus fruits, red bell peppers, spinach, garlic, spinach, and ginger.

Exercise

Exercise

Having a healthy diet is not exactly enough to keep us in tip-top shape to fight off diseases so exercise is an equally important step in making sure that our immune system is up. Physical activity lets you sweat out the toxins that are in your body and strengthens both the immune and respiratory systems.

Wash Hands

Wash your hands

Perhaps this is one of the most crucial steps you need to take in protecting yourself. Washing your hands does wonders in making sure your hands are grime-free and germ-free! Multiple studies have reported that to achieve the best results (and trust us, you want to achieve the best results), you must wash your hands for at least 20 seconds with soap. People have recommended singing a song to make sure you hit the 20 seconds so Twitter user Jen Monnier (@JenMonnier) has compiled a list of catchy verses and choruses that you can use to make your 20 seconds go by quicker. Dont Touch Face

Stop touching your face!

Your hands are probably one of the dirtiest things on planet earth on account of how many things they touch on a daily basis. If you touch your face, you are putting yourself at more risk of absorbing nasty germs especially since 3 vital pathways into your body (eyes, nose, mouth) are on your face. Also, touching your face deposits bacteria and grime on your skin which could lead to breakouts and other kinds of skin problems. With that being said, do yourself a favor and stop touching your face!

Raw Meat

Cook your meats properly

Raw meat can carry harmful bacteria which, if ingested, can make you sick. Once meat is cooked thoroughly, however, you drastically reduce the risk of contracting anything because the heat kills the germs and allows our bodies to better absorb and process the nutrients from the meat.

Vitamins

Drink vitamins!

Vitamins help your body increase its defenses by being supplementary to your body’s functions. However, specific vitamins are meant for specific things so to make sure you’ve got yourself covered, a multivitamin might be your best bet. As a disclaimer, vitamins will not cure you or make you totally immune from any kind of sickness, but it will surely help your body double up on its defenses.

Drink Water

Keep yourself hydrated

Drinking water has a ton of health benefits but in this particular case, it will help your body flush out toxins and keep you oxygenated. Drinking water also prevents dehydration, which is not only uncomfortable but also leaves you at risk to contract other kinds of diseases.

Consult Doctor

Consult your doctor

In order to know what’s really going on in your body, a trip to the doctor would be the best course of action. A doctor would be the best person to tell you what you need the most, especially if they conduct tests which would tell them how your body is functioning. Additionally, your doctor might even recommend you get some booster vaccines which would help your immune system combat the diseases you might come in contact with.

During times like these, you can never be too safe. We hope that these tips will come in handy and that you and yours will always be healthy. Stay safe!
