Time and money are essential and if you lose access to either of them, then that can cause some problems.
If you use a bank’s online services regularly, such as a mobile banking app, you probably don’t realize that they can fail and leave you without access to your funds. What if you have a family emergency and need to access funds on the go, but you can’t do so because your bank is down? The goal of this research project is to help banks improve their online services and make them more resilient to attacks, such as Distributed Denial of Service attacks, or DDoS.
It’s a question as old as time: “Why isn’t my bank online?” Or, “Why isn’t the website online?” Perhaps it’s because it’s your local bank, or maybe you suspected it was hit by an outage. Whatever the case, a bank outage is a major hassle for the average customer, which is exactly why we monitor online services for outages.
