Alaska hands Blackwater to 24th straight loss

The Alaska Aces extended the Blackwater Bossing’s infamous losing streak to 24 games with a 98-75 shellacking in the 2021 PBA Governors’ Cup on Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

After a sluggish start, Alaska turned things around in the second quarter where they outscored Blackwater, 29-19, to take a 50-43 halftime lead. They extended their advantage to a high of 26—92-66—and didn’t look back en route to getting the victory and breaking their own two-game slump.

Maverick Ahanmisi led the Aces’ balanced attack with 17 points, eight rebounds, two assists, and two steals to help them hike their win-loss record to 3-2.

Alaska’s import Olu Ashaolu did not finish the game as he suffered a calf strain and left the match with seven minutes in the third. He tallied 10 points and seven boards.

On the other side, Rashawn McCarthy had 16 points for the Bossing, which got a mere two points and five boards from their reinforcement, Jaylen Bond. The only other player to reach double-figures was Ed Daquioag, who had 12.
